A seventh-grade student in Karachi has created a smart stick for visually impaired individuals, offering sound and vibration alerts to help users detect obstacles.

The device was showcased at the Bachaapreneur competition at the National Incubation Centre, where it drew attention for its practical design and student-led innovation.

The young inventor, Radhe Krishna, said he developed the idea after watching a video online and has been experimenting with robotics since Grade 5. He built multiple prototypes before finalizing the latest version of the stick, which can sense obstacles within three feet.

The beeping sound increases as an object gets closer, and the stick also vibrates to improve accessibility for users. Radhe designed and assembled the internal components himself, including the buzzer, vibrator, and wiring system.

The rechargeable device can be powered with a standard plug-in charger and is priced at Rs. 15,000, significantly higher than a regular white cane but offering expanded functionality.

He plans to add more advanced features, including GPS-based audio navigation and improved balance by reducing the size of the attached control box. He also aims to upgrade the system so it can detect ground-level obstacles in addition to upper-level ones.
